My mind was totally frazzled the last few weeks before Fall Break, so I made the most of resting and recharging over Fall Break in order to come back to school and be ready to seize it. I was nervous about coming back to school and seeing how I would fare, but I think I handled it pretty well. It’s definitely something I need to be conscious about and actively work toward. Here’s to hoping that I can keep it up this week too! I’ve been telling myself that my weekdays are really just Monday-Wednesday to make the week seem more manageable. I have classes Monday-Thursday, but I only have one class on Thursday, and it’s pretty chill. Thursdays are usually stressful because that’s when problem sets are due for another class, but… I can do it!!
“hack”MIT
The first time I heard of a hackathon, I imagined a bunch of nerds breaking through cyber security systems. In fact, this is not the kind of “hack” that people are referring to when they talk about hackathons. Instead, what happens is that a bunch of nerds spend 24 hours making cool projects, sleep optional.
This is why I love having a blog. I can look back and see where I was. The week before HackMIT, I wrote on the blog that I was very anxious about participating in my first hackathon and being in an intimidating environment with so many experienced people. Now having gone and come back, I can confirm that there were many things I didn’t know about, but once again, I didn’t need to be such a worry wart. Although there were quite a few things we weren’t sure about, like how to connect to wifi (more on that later), there was one thing we were sure about: we definitely had a lot of fun.
Fall Break – 42/52 :)
I really needed this past week. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to rest properly, to wake up and feel refreshed, rather than wake up and feel like I have just enough to run on to make it through the day. It’s been so long since I’ve had this much fun and this many laughs. It’s been so long since I’ve seen my girlfriends and I love them so much (:
The Heart of Henry Quantum by Pepper Harding

In the bestselling tradition of A Man Called Ove and the beloved film Love Actually, a quirky, socially awkward man goes on a quest to find his wife a last-minute Christmas gift and encounters several distractions—including bumping into his ex-girlfriend who was the one who got away.
Henry Quantum has several thoughts going through his head at any given time, so it’s no surprise when he forgets something very important—specifically, a Christmas gift for his wife, which he realizes on the morning of December 23. Henry sets off that day in search of the perfect present for her: a bottle of Chanel No. 5 perfume. But much like Henry’s ever-wandering mind, his quest takes him in different and unexpected directions, including running into the former love of his life, Daisy. His wife, meanwhile, unhappy in her marriage, is hiding a secret of her own. And Daisy, who has made the unsettling choice of leaving her husband to strike out on her own, finds herself questioning whether she and Henry belong together after all.
A sweet, funny, and touching debut from author Pepper Harding shows how the seemingly insignificant events of one single day can change our lives forever—perhaps, if we’re lucky, for the better.
Break, doughnuts, laundry – 41/52 :)
It’s finally Fall Break! After I submitted my lab on Friday, I watched three Amanda Bynes movies. I still have homework to do this Fall Break so I’m not totally free, but I forced myself to not do any homework this weekend and just rest (well, I finished reading a book and did some blog stuff, but anything not related to school is what I consider “rest”). I’m so excited for this coming week, and in case you missed it on the blog earlier this week, here are my Fall Break plans.
Fall break plans
I have one week of sweet freedom before I’m back to slogging it through school, so I gotta optimise my time by figuring out how to delegate it between rest (zzz), revitalisation (adventures!), academic productivity (review), and personal passion projects (blogging/photography/writing, apartment interior design).
