It was a rough week man! I’m just glad that it’s finally fall break! I spent my previous weekend working on finishing the “zeroth” draft of my senior thesis, which meant that I didn’t do any work for any of my other classes, which meant that I was playing catch-up throughout the week and staying up late to complete assignments. I was looking forward to recovering this past weekend, but my schedule has been packed, what with everyone wanting to celebrate and hang out before they leave for their fall break trips. I’m just staying in Philly though–got lots of things to do! Did you see my fall break plans?
Fall break 2017 plans
Last fall and spring break, I filled my days with creative endeavors, and since I haven’t been working on my own creative personal projects this school year so far, I thought that I would use my fall break to make up for it (I wanted to try an Instagram challenge and the 10×10 wardrobe challenge). But alas, there are too many things for me to do, so I won’t be able to go as overboard as I usually do (last fall I tried a new recipe, shot my new watch, had an autumnal photoshoot with friends, and made cookie butter freakshakes–even I’m impressed!). BUT. It’ll still be a great fall break, and my future self will thank my past self for being productive. And I’m actually interested in the work I’m doing, so that’s a plus.
Green Engine Coffee
I live just a minute away from Green Engine Coffee. Somehow I managed to resist getting daily coffees last year, but this year not so much. It’s probably because my class schedule is light, so I’m not in class often, but my workload is heavy, so I need a place to work. I’ve tried working at home so as not to spend too much money on coffee at cafes I loiter at, but I never seem to be able to stay on task in the comforts of my apartment; the desire to cosy up and do nothing is too strong!
But despite the many mornings and afternoons I’ve spent at Green Engine, I’ve never gotten any food there before. When Grace (my friend and neighbour!) told me about her weekly ritual of grabbing Friday morning brunch at Green Engine to celebrate surviving the week, I was happy to join her!
Sleuths, mice, mooncakes // weekly update
I had a long weekend this weekend! It wasn’t particularly eventful for me since I had to work on my thesis draft all weekend, but I had a long weekend nonetheless! UPenn was on fall break starting Thursday, which meant I didn’t have my Thursday 4:30PM-7:30PM class, and my linguistics senior seminar cancelled class to give us time to work on our thesis and turn in our first draft (“Draft 0”) by Sunday night, so my last class of the week ended Thursday at 1:00PM and my weekend commenced!
White Dog Cafe
White Dog Cafe has three locations, and one of them is really close to me, but I’ve never gone before because it’s quite expensive. My friends and I call it a place for Mainline Moms (rich white housewives). But to celebrate finishing all three parts of our first project for our design class, Louise, Stephanie, and I wanted to treat ourselves! (and subsequently spent a total of $100 omg never again) (it was good while it lasted)
Swims, trolling, presentations // weekly update
It’s been such a long week! I’ve been trying my best to make food and not eat out, but it’s been hard. I’ve also been spending way too much money on coffee. In other news, the weather finally started cooling down and feeling like autumn on Thursday, though it’s due to warm up again on Wednesday, but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts! I’ve started wearing my Lorenzo Magni Christmas sweater in the early mornings and late nights at my apartment (I haven’t yet worn it out because I’m afraid of getting attacked by Halloweenies and Thanksgivers). Also I realised that the colour of my “Christmas green” (labeled as such on the tag by the thrift store) Timberland sweater I bought for $5 at a thrift store at the beginning of summer is very similar to the colour of the bleu paon Hermès Halzan bag my mom gifted me this summer!
