Meet the squad: Georgina, Grace, Victoria, Ami, and me! You might have seen their names appear on the blog here and there. They’ve stuck with me since freshman year, but over the years, as we’ve been getting deeper into our majors (all different!), we haven’t had as much time to hang out as before. If the squad wants to all hang, we need to plan weeks in advance to coordinate everyone’s schedules. But Thanksgiving is the one time of year we can all count on. It’s our most sacred tradition to spend Thanksgiving in NYC, during which we storm Georgina’s house, her parents cook us up luxurious spreads, and we pop by Koreatown a hundred times in one weekend.
Heart over head – 2/12
I was brainstorming what I could do for my February photoshoot, and thought that it’d be fun to make it festive. I’m not big on Valentine’s Day, like, at all (it’s a fake holiday!!!), except for the excuse to eat cookies and chocolates, but it has some motifs that I thought could be interesting to work with. I wanted to use the motifs as objects rather than themes, and not get too cheesy with it.
We had originally planned to do this photoshoot the weekend before Valentine’s Day so that I could get these photos up during the week of Valentine’s, but that weekend turned out to be busier than we thought it’d be, so we rescheduled. And anyway, the snow storm was going on just two days before our scheduled photoshoot, so if we had done the photoshoot then, we’d have had to maneuver around muddy slush, which would have been inconvenient.
Bad photos, good friends // Secret Santa
These are terrible photos that I don’t think I can even pass off as #grunge, I don’t have anything #deep to say about them, and there wasn’t even a distinct chronology to the party that I could walk you through, but it was a happy night between friends that I don’t want to forget. So here is a post for me.
Thanksgiving 2016
As Kathleen, Kevin, Sunny, and I were wandering around NYC trying to figure out where to hit up next, we passed by strangers who seemed to be facing the same dilemma as we were: “Should we eat next or shop next?”
There is so much going on in NYC, but after having visited so many times, there isn’t much left I feel like doing there, except for visiting specific museum exhibits or watching specific Broadway shows. The first trip to NYC is when you do all the tourist-y stuff, Times Square and the whole shebang. (Then never go to Times Square ever again.) The second and third trips are when you experience the real city and find the hidden spots. But after that, there’s just too many people everywhere and it’s so draining to navigate through the throng.
To eat or to shop? The two main activities, both of which you could do anywhere. But maybe it isn’t about where we go, but about how we get there. So, upon arrival, we walked 80+ blocks of NYC. Honestly, that’s the way to go.
Labor Day sale haul
This is not the kind of blog post I usually write, but I’m just putting it here to shame myself for spending money. I have this thing where I need to explain to people what I buy so that I can validate my choices. Usually I’m not a shopper, online or offline, but once I buy one thing, the momentum just keeps building. I might write another post like this for all the new furniture I bought for my new apartment hmm…
Independence Day Weekend
I think @urphillypal says it best: “It’s quite easy for Philadelphia to always be at the receiving end of jokes during holiday celebrations since we are right in the middle of New York and D.C. but not on July 4th. If there is one time people from Philly should be proud, it’s today. We have a birthright. Happy 4th of July from the city were Independence was born, Philadelphia! ??????” How COOL is it to be in Philly for Independence Day? The city really does go all out! So what better place for me to begin the festivities than in the middle of it all in the city at Jessica and Jennifer‘s apartment with another staycation?
