The bookish event of the month was the Netflix adaptation of Shadow & Bone, and it did not disappoint! I convinced my brothers to watch the first episode with me when it released at midnight, and we finished the rest of the show in the afternoon. I haven’t been reading much this year so I haven’t been as active on bookstagram, but that weekend bookstagram lit up and it was so much fun chatting with people about the show and answering questions noobs had about the books hehe. I’m thinking of writing a blog post guide for it!
Currently reading Everybody by Olivia Laing. Super interesting but dense with information and slow-going. Feeling the pressure because the pub date is May 4! I most definitely won’t finish it by then, but I’d still like to get through a good chunk of it. Looking forward to flying through my next reads though. I have a few memoirs lined up because that’s what I seem to be in the mood for!
Barely reading The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, but not giving it up!
I Used to Have a Plan by Alessandra Olanow // ★★★★
A collection of illustrations to find solace and inspiration in. Not too deep. Mostly for aesthetics. While I wouldn’t spend $17 on a book you can read in <5min, it could make a sweet gift for someone in their teens/twenties. Check out more illustrations by Olanow on Instagram.
The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon // ★★★★.5
Two clashing coworkers pose as exes giving relationship advice for a new radio segment to save their struggling station. Read this fun and flirty romcom in a night. Swooning for Dominic Yun. Educated, charismatic, hot. Recommended if you’re into podcasts/public radio and millennial romances.
Percy Jackson books 2-5 by Rick Riordan // ★★★★★
Finished my first ever reread of this series in one fell swoop! 5 stars for entertainment + nostalgia. Loved the fast-paced action, humour, friendship, and chapter titles. These teens have too many monsters to fight to dwell on angst or pine over crushes. Grover and Tyson were precious. Annabeth and Rachel were cool and smart. The moment with Pan was sad. We gotta save the earth peeps.
