☆*:・゚ It’s been a bright, hot week, which isn’t always the most comfortable to walk around in, but makes for amazing natural lighting indoors, and more importantly, for my bookstagram ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )
☆*:・゚ I won the Goodreads giveaway for Miracle Creek by Angie Kim!!! I haven’t received the book in the mail yet, but I’m so excited for it! I rarely win giveaways… and to win one for such a hyped book with such a beautiful cover too! I also won an Instagram giveaway for A Dog Named Beautiful by Rob Kugler hosted by my friend Sadia two weeks ago, which I forgot to mention in a previous “Bright Spots.” To win two giveaways… unfathomable!
☆*:・゚ I went kickboxing with Victoria! This was my second time kickboxing ever; my first time kickboxing was a free trial at UFC Gym with Julia. This time I did a free trial at CKO Kickboxing. Victoria and I are planning to hustle Philly’s various kickboxing gyms for their free trials, and Victoria may eventually get a membership for her favourite; I won’t because I’m already paying for a gym/pool membership, but I’m down for the free trials! After our free trial with CKO, we pretended to contemplate buying a membership and then they offered us a second free trial, so we’ll be back for that. We’re also planning to schedule free trials at two other kickboxing gyms.
☆*:・゚ Thank you Georgina for letting me borrow your athletic shorts for kickboxing because I only have one old pair that’s falling off my butt (I wear them as pyjamas).
☆*:・゚ Wendy’s frosties and fries with Victoria after kickboxing. Because we deserved it after all that hard work. (Seriously! We went kickboxing on a Tuesday and I didn’t regain full function of my arms again until Sunday.)
☆*:・゚ I love when the bus’ card scanner doesn’t work, because then I don’t need to swipe my card and I get a free ride.
☆*:・゚ Checked out a new restaraunt called Martabak Ok with Victoria after discovering it via Thrillist. If you’re like me and hadn’t heard of martabak: it’s is an Indonesian street food that comes sweet or savoury. The sweet version is like a stuffed pancake, and the savoury version is pan-fried. We had wanted to try both a sweet and a savoury, but when we got there, they didn’t have the savoury ones available yet, so instead of a savoury martabak, we shared fried tofu, and then we each got our own sweet martabaks. I got pandan martabak stuffed with cheese and sweet corn, and Victoria got pandan martabak stuffed with cheese, peanuts, and chocolate sprinkles. Martabak Ok is passionate about bringing unique flavour combinations to the States.
☆*:・゚ After Martabak Ok, Victoria and I spent the rest of the day thrifting and shopping. (Love an active day out! A novelty for a homebody like me hehe.) I ended up buying three pairs of shorts, bringing the grand total of shorts in my wardrobe to four, not including my old athletic shorts that are falling off my butt. Usually I’m not into shorts because you have to try hard to not look sloppy in them, but since I’ve been going to the gym so often and it’s getting hotter, I thought shorts would be good because they’ll be more comfortable in the heat, and who care’s if you go to/from the gym sloppy? So yay! I have casual shorts for the summer.
☆*:・゚ The cashier at H&M complimented the Gudetama shirt I was wearing.
☆*:・゚ Spent a day dog watching with Victoria! I wanted to creep on other people’s dogs and perhaps snap some thematic shots of A Dog Named Beautiful for my bookstagram, but I ended up photographing the book at Lil Pop Shop (shown above) (where I had a strawberry rhubarb lemonade popsicle), and then dog watched at the nearby park free-handed! We discovered a market at the park that day and Victoria bought two plant babies for her new apartment. Later in the day I got a Mister Softee rainbow sprinkle cone.
☆*:・゚ The final episode of Game of Thrones aired last week, but this week the Game of Thrones documentary went up, so I hosted one last Game of Thrones viewing party! We watched over homemade red curry noodles. Thoughts: Everyone looked so young in the S01 table read! Loved all the emotions during the final (S08E06) table read. Andrew McClay is the real MVP and should open up his own merch shop. The documentary didn’t have the best transitions so it felt a little all over the place and more like a behind-the-scenes assorted collection, but the individual moments captured were great. Loved clips of the cast snacking in costume. Del Reid is the best Head of Snow. I’m glad that this documentary highlighted the hardworking crew and extras! Actors often get all the glory. We can see more of them on press junkets uploaded to Youtube anyway!
What was a bright spot in your week?
