☆*:・゚ My friend Steph visited from San Francisco at the beginning of the week, and we caught up over matcha flavoured desserts at A La Mousse! She’s one of my few friends who’s actually enjoying her job, and the positivity was welcome. I miss her so much!
☆*:・゚ A random dude complimented my shoes when I was waiting for the bus.
☆*:・゚ I was working at a cafe near a cinema and spontaneously decided to watch Tolkien myself at the end of the day. The beautiful cinematography and soundtrack were especially a treat after watching stuff like Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame. I’ve read some reviews that said the film was kinda boring, but I enjoy period dramas, and again, I loved the cinematography and soundtrack.
☆*:・゚ By the time the film ended, I should have just missed my train home, but luckily the train was late and I was able to catch it instead of waiting an hour for the next one. Another highlight about the commute was that the ticketer took my cheaper Zone 1/2 passes both ways, instead of the more expensive Zone 3/4 passes like I was supposed to have.
☆*:・゚ I found a shower stall with a better shower head at my gym’s locker room! Good enough water pressure and temperature adjustment.
☆*:・゚ I love Trader Joe’s free samples, and they’re especially welcome since I usually pop by after swimming and am starving! Last week I tasted their roast beef and coleslaw on rye, and this past week I bought all the ingredients for it and made it at home.
☆*:・゚ I volunteered at my local library for an author event! The event was okay, but the most exciting part was learning that there’d be an author event for Mary Pope Osborne–author of the Magic Tree House series (my childhood!!)–in July. I went home and signed up for it right away; luckily the volunteer slots weren’t filled yet.
☆*:・゚ This past weekend, I took a day trip to NYC because my friend Kristy was visiting from Toronto (y’all NEED to check out her amazing moody Instagram)! Our friend Heather visited from Connecticut, and we met up with our friends Kathleen and Poonie too! I’ve visited Kathleen and Poonie a few times since they moved to NYC post-grad, but I hadn’t seen Kristy or Heather since high school! It was so special to see everyone together, laugh about old times, check in with how everyone was doing now, and commiserate over existential crises. Kristy, Heather, and I met up first; we had brunch at Gotan, grabbed our second coffees at Blue Bottle Coffee, and hung out at Bryant Park. Then we met up with Kathleen and Poonie at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The weather was amazing and we had a food-less picnic (it’s a vibe).
What was a bright spot in your week?
