Every time we got back to the hotel, my dad would make his way over to the balcony with his camera. Multiple times a day. A few days in, I joked with him, “Every day you take pictures of the same sky.” He adamantly insisted, “It’s not the same!”
Technically, I was right. But in a way, he was right too. You couldn’t predict how the rays would strike, how the clouds would diffuse, how the ocean would reflect, how the boats would dance. Every day and every moment of the day, the same sky was a new painting.
Coming back from the holidays, I hope to carry that same energy. We don’t have very many holidays these next few months, but there are still so many small and beautiful moments in our otherwise monotonous days that we can celebrate. Sunsets. Sunrises. Homemade breakfasts. Finishing a book. Not snoozing the alarm. Waking up with the sun (easier to do with late winter mornings, hypothetically). The stillness. Dog sightings. Frosted grass. Wrapping yourself in fresh laundry. Making your own coffee. Tea. The muted patter of rain or snow on the window as you’re snuggled up inside. Golden hour.
