There’s a gorgeous festive centerpiece on the kitchen island at home. I’ve been taking all my amateur lifestyle photos in front of it lately (always at the darkest hour of the day of course, rendering the photos almost unusable, because that’s how I roll). Non-festive box of chocolates placed by the festive centerpiece? Festive! Non-festive morning cappuccino placed by the festive centerpiece? Festive! Festive nails modeled over the festive centerpiece? Irresistibly festive!
My shining moment was photographing the Pierre Marcolini assorted chocolates that my dad brought back from his business trip in Belgium. (When I was little, it felt like our house always had Godiva assorted chocolates, but it’s been awhile since we’ve had assorted chocolates at home, so this felt like such a treat!)
I boosted myself from the broken bar stools onto the granite island to get a top view of the festive centerpiece. I placed the opened box of chocolates on it, and then, sitting on the island, angled my phone to get a shot, but my elbows accidentally snagged some plants hanging from a nearby vase, causing it to wobble, but I caught the vase just in time and haphazardly steadied it back in place.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t help the pollen that got shaken off in the process, settling over my open box of chocolates. I didn’t have much time to lament over that though, because out of the corner of my eye, I saw the vase tottering again. I swear I didn’t touch it! I think the plants were off balance due to the previous fall, and the vase was too narrow to distribute the weight.
My reflexes weren’t enough this time. The vase fell and water spilled everywhere, but thankfully the vase stayed intact.
Once the mess was cleaned, I lightly rinsed pollen off a chocolate and popped it in my mouth. I warned the rest of the family to do the same if they wanted a chocolate.
When I woke up the next day, there were only two chocolates left ꒰๑•̥﹏•̥๑꒱
I haven’t been up to much in Beijing. I’m trying to stay pseudo-jet-lagged because I like waking up early. I got my annual haircut. Visited a nail salon. My mom got festive nails too. Had hot pot. Joined my mom for her yoga class. Went to the movie theatre. Had bubble tea every day so far. Going to the dentist today. Going to Osaka tomorrow.
I’ve been revisiting old stomping grounds and enjoying these small moments.
How’s the festive season wrapping up for you? Is it crazy around the house or calmer like mine? (Except for the occasional shenanigan.)
