I had a long weekend this weekend! It wasn’t particularly eventful for me since I had to work on my thesis draft all weekend, but I had a long weekend nonetheless! UPenn was on fall break starting Thursday, which meant I didn’t have my Thursday 4:30PM-7:30PM class, and my linguistics senior seminar cancelled class to give us time to work on our thesis and turn in our first draft (“Draft 0”) by Sunday night, so my last class of the week ended Thursday at 1:00PM and my weekend commenced!
// I made granola for the first time! And I burnt it. But I made granola for the first time! I used Living Lou’s 5-ingredient honey almond granola recipe and I already had all the ingredients. You know I can’t resist a recipe with cinnamon, especially as it’s autumn!
// I had my computer science senior seminar for the second time, which is funny because my linguistics senior seminar has already met four times. Anyways, my computer science senior seminar is an experience. Our professor is so funny, but he doesn’t try to be. (He goes on tangents. And also introduces his tangents. And he can go on and on about what not to do in order to tell us his point about what to do.) Kat and I were texting each other back and forth in class (on our laptops), and I had to stop at some point because I needed to wipe that cheeky smile off my face.
// I’ve been waking up earlier this week! It started as a fluke (waking up at 6:30AM) but I liked the extra hours in my day. Then the next few days my roomie’s alarm would go off and she wouldn’t get up to turn it off, so I’d knock on her door to get her to turn it off, and I’d be awake by then, so the early mornings have been sticking.
// I have a new campus job! I’ve been employed as one of the digital marketers for the theatre department! And the other digital marketer is Kat (my roomie last year)! Kat is taking over the digital marketing for this fall semester as she’s graduating next semester, and I’ll be taking over for the spring semester, but I’ll still be dipping in and out of the projects this semester. I met with my employer for the first time this week, and she was so sweet! She seems really excited to work with me and Kat, and about our design experience. She also checked out my blog and said she loved it :’)
// Swam on Wednesday and Thursday morning! Ami joined me on Thursday. We’ve been trying to swim 1x/week. It’s the only exercise I get all week haha. After swimming on Thursday, we saw a beautiful butterfly, so we just sat on a bench and watched it until Ami’s first class. Whilst watching this beautiful butterfly, Victoria came upon us, so the three of us had a nice little catch up.
// After class on Thursday, Steph and I were walking toward Green Engine Coffee when we saw an iPhone in the middle of the sidewalk. We picked it up and tried to discern whose it was. We turned on their Airdrop to find out the name of the phone… which was the name of one of the computer science professors! But his name is a common name, so we weren’t sure. Whilst we were deliberating what to do with the phone, an email notification appeared from another computer science professor. So by then we were pretty sure the phone belonged to the computer science professor we were thinking about (remember my bowl story?? Yeah it was that professor again). We started walking back toward campus to return the professor’s phone to his office, but before we walked too far, we saw him biking toward us, so we called out his name and told him we found his phone. He was on his way back to the coffee shop to look for his phone presumably, so he was super thankful toward us! Though I still don’t think he knew who either of us were haha. WHICH IS FINE.
// We had a mouse problem in our apartment towards the end of last year, so the exterminator came and laid some traps. AND ONE OF THOSE TRAPS CAUGHT A MOUSE THIS WEEK. I mean, I know that that’s what mouse traps are for, but I kinda just wanted to use them like scarecrows, ya know?? I have no idea when the mouse got caught; I didn’t hear the trap snap. But I was working diligently away in my room, glanced up, and then.. DEAD MOUSE. I called up Grace and asked if I could stay over at her apartment for the night (same apartment building, different room) until maintenance came in the morning to get rid of the mouse. Grace was such a great host. We snacked on cold brew latte dessert bars from Trader Joe’s and instant coconut coffee she brought back from Hainan, and worked on homework together until midnight. Ooh a funny part of sleeping over at Grace’s was that her cat GG looks like a mouse and GG also has some mouse toys, which made me flinch a few times (post traumatic stress!!!). (You might be thinking that I should have borrowed GG to clean up the mouse problem but… I don’t want a mouse carcass or a bloody trap in my room! And I don’t want GG to catch any potential diseases either.)
// That night was the mid-autumn festival, so it was nice spending it with Grace! We were talking about how neither of us had mooncakes to celebrate. But the next day, Grace went into Chinatown with her cousin, so I asked her to grab me a box of mooncakes, hoping that there’d be some leftover and that they’d be on sale. There were and they were! It was buy one get one free, so Grace got the mooncakes for me for essentially $6. I didn’t specify what kind of mooncakes I wanted, but she remembered that my favourites were the lotus seed paste mooncakes with salted egg yolk :’)
// Got brunch with Grace on Friday at Green Engine Coffee! Last week she was telling me how she often gets Friday morning brunch to celebrate making it through the week, which I think is a fantastic idea! *full blog post on Wednesday*
How was your week?
