A La Mousse is a dessert cafe with an Asian flair, but I just call it a green tea cafe. They have non-green-tea items on their menu as well, but you know that I’ll always opt for the green tea desserts given the choice!
The cafe is located at Chinatown, which y’all know is a hot spot for me, but surprisingly, this was only my second time hitting up the cafe. You’d think that I’d be a frequent customer considering I loveeee matcha and it’s such an easy cafe to get to. But I guess I don’t get around to it often because when I’m in Chinatown, I’m usually already filled up with bubble tea and noodles. Also A La Mousse is not the cheapest place to grab a bite. It’s not super expensive, but compared to other shops in Chinatown, it is. Everyone knows that when you head to Chinatown you’re looking for cheap eats!
When my brother visited me in Philly, I decided to take him here. There aren’t very many places my brother is willing to leave the house for, but for green tea desserts he was. After grabbing lunch at Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodles in Chinatown, we headed over to A La Mousse to grab dessert. We decided to share a matcha lava cake. The lady at the cash register told us that we’d need to wait for 20 minutes because they make each of the matcha lava cakes fresh, but that worked perfectly for me and my brother, because we needed time to digest our lunch and make room for dessert anyway.
The first time I visited the cafe was during a celebratory outing with my group project members after we had presented and submitted our project. Stephanie, Julia, and I headed into the city, but unfortunately Austin stayed behind because he had to go to work. But since Stephanie, Julia, and I are such fantastic friends, we brought a picture of Austin along to include him in our experience. (Don’t worry, we also brought back a cup of bubble tea for him.)
When we were at A La Mousse that time, it was the evening so the lighting was pretty bad and I didn’t snap any nice pictures, but I did capture a few on my phone. (I’m glad that the second time I visited the shop was during the day so that I could get nice pictures.) I ordered a brownie with sizzling matcha ice cream, Stephanie ordered a matcha lava cake, and Julia ordered a matcha mille crepe cake.
