This is the LAST cafe post from my epic spring break 2016 cafe crawl. Yeah I’ve been pretty lax about getting these posts out in real-time, but I figured it didn’t really matter, because cafes are perfect all-year-round. Don’t worry, there are definitely more cafe posts to come.
I was immediately obsessed with the industrial interior. Downstairs is a little more restaurant-style, but upstairs is more cafe-style, which is excellent for hunkering down and getting productive in. And you don’t have to feel self-conscious about overstaying your welcome, because there are plenty of people working away. Or maybe I’ve just become too accustomed to overstaying my welcome at cafes and now don’t even notice when cafe owners stare down my table.
Haha but actually. Whilst waiting for our food and drinks to arrive, I was walking around the cafe to snap pictures, as a blogger does, and I think some customers gave me the stink eye. Conclusion: lots of people hard at work thus good place to work? So that’s a plus. Side effect: not the best place to disrupt with a camera. But I swear that I only did it that once! (I mean, only that once in that cafe–not EVER.) I just needed to snap all those shots to immortalise the cafe on my blog, and then I promise I come in peace.
Mine: maple pecan latte, chai latte
Victoria: some kinda coffee, mushroom and buttered kale omelet – 3 egg omelet served choice of meat, hash browns, and dressed greens ($12)
Jennifer: s’mores mocha, the a.b.e. – avocado, bacon, and egg whites with tomato, dressed greens, and herbed goat cheese ($9)
For spring break, I had budgeted money for my SEPTA train week pass and for coffee at all the cafes I crawled, which meant that I needed to be frugal with how I spent money in other areas. Being the logical person I am, I concluded to “give up” food. I can totally survive a week on coffee and $1 bread from Chinatown right?? Yeah so that explains why I ended up purchasing two lattes from One Shot and no food. I got the maple pecan latte because it sounded good, but I also had to try the chai latte because I’m on a hunt to find the best place in Philly to get chai lattes. So you see? I had to! For the record, my favourite places to get chai lattes are One Shot, Plenty Cafe, and Joe Coffee. Hothouse used to be on the list, but they changed the way they make it and it doesn’t taste good anymore 🙁
The photos below are of my favourite part of the cafe. This is such a great place for group work, but also to work even on your own if you’re lucky enough to nab it before any other customer. Evidently I did not nab it this time. But I will be back for it!!
