I got an email from Yelp (from that one time I ordered Tiffin via Yelp and I guess I ended up subscribing to their newsletter but I like food so whatever) announcing a new cafe in town, so I grabbed a friend last weekend and went.
When Victoria and I first moved into our summer apartment, we walked around town to familiarise ourselves with it. Okay fine, really we were just looking for wifi hotspots, which meant… cafes! I was sad to see that Melodies Cafe had closed down. Melodies Cafe had open mic nights, live music, and people from the community would perform; I went there once to support my friend’s band. I never ordered any food or coffee so I can’t say anything on that, but I really liked Melodies Cafe’s unique social scene.
Anyways, next to what used to be Melodies Cafe, there was a new cafe under construction, and we wondered when it’d be up, anticipating opening day. And now the day has come!
Nudy’s Cafe is more like a restaurant than a cafe. There were quite a lot of people when Julia and I visited on Saturday, but we were able to slide in and get bar seats. We’d already looked at the menu before arriving, so we placed our order right away, which gave me time to figure out the lighting situation for photography before our food arrived, #bloglyfe. The lighting in the cafe wasn’t the most photography friendly, but if you get one of the few tables near the window, you’ll be just fine.
Julia: Eggs Benedict ($8.99) – Two poached eggs with Canadian bacon topped with hollandaise sauce served on an English muffin with home fries.
Me: “Best ever” carrot cake french toast ($9.29) – Lucious carrot cake dipped in batter and baked to perfection. Served with a side of cream cheese frosting.
I ordered the carrot cake french toast after reading a review on Yelp, and I’m glad I did because it was just as decadent as I had hoped. I love myself some cream cheese frosting. I only ate about half of it though (two of four french toast sticks) because I had a few munchies at home before heading out. I always snack a bit at home before I eat out so that I don’t spend too much money; I always overestimate how hungry I am. Idk man, when I’m hungry I just feel ravenous, but I’m easily satiated. I also had a bite of Julia’s eggs Benedict, and that was good too, for the record.

tl;dr– More like a restaurant than a cafe. Good for brunch. Lighting is meh. Julia got eggs Benedict; I got “best ever” carrot cake french toast. Both delish.
